Reducing Cardiovascular Mortality in Haemodialysis Patients

The population of patients who suffer from end-stage
renal disease (ESRD) and are on haemodialysis have a
cardiovascular mortality rate that is 10-20 times higher than
the average population¬. In this group, 40-60% of all deaths
are due to cardiovascular disease (CVD). And although dialysis
techniques have improved over recent years, these excessively
high mortality rates have not been reduced, highlighting the
need for new methods and new approaches to treat this highrisk
population. Dr Winter and Bobby Stutz of AtCor Medical describe how a focus on reducing CVD in haemodialysis patient offers perhaps the best opportunity for reducing the high mortality rate.
