For the second part of his series on respiratory drug development,
Robert Lins, Respiratory Project Director at SGS, focuses on clinical
trial strategy and study design. The goal of adaptive trials is to
increase the efficiency of randomised clinical trials, which have the
potential to both reduce costs and enhance the likelihood of finding
a true patient benefit. The emphasis in exploratory trials is on finding
safe and effective doses, assigning a larger proportion of patients to
treatments with a relevant effect, and to select the most relevant
doses for confirmatory trials.
