Over the past decade, Egypt, an Arab, African and Mediterranean country with a population approaching 90 million people, has become a major player when it comes to clinical research. The most populous country in the Middle- East has, at the time of writing, 360 running clinical trials as per clinicaltrials.gov, many of which are global multicentre sponsored clinical trials. Marwan Felaefel, who currently leads a team of CRAs in Egypt and KSA at MCT-CRO, describes the shape of the clinical trials industry in the Middle Eastern country, outlining the regulatory and approval processes, and the benefits of having both reputable medical institutions and an abundant patient pool.
