Clinical Trials: Powering the Future of Medicine

Launching 20th May 2025 for International Clinical Trials Day

Clinical trials are the cornerstone of modern medicine, paving the way for life-changing treatments and groundbreaking therapies.

From the vaccines that save millions of lives to targeted cancer therapies transforming patient outcomes, clinical trials are where innovation meets reality — turning scientific theory into tangible solutions.

To explore this transformative field, ITN Business will be launching ‘Clinical Trials: Powering the Future of Medicine’, a new programme for May 2025 that delves into the cutting-edge world of clinical research and pharmaceutical innovation, offering invaluable insights from industry thought leaders including the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN).

With the UK government’s creation of 18 Commercial Research Delivery Centres (CRDCs), the programme will explore how this expanded infrastructure is streamlining trial processes, enabling faster patient recruitment and enhancing accessibility for diverse communities.

Key themes include the rise of decentralised and digital trials, which leverage innovative technologies to bring clinical research closer to patients, fostering inclusivity and reducing barriers to participation. Ethical considerations surrounding patient data and genetic research will be central, alongside discussions on how AI and genomics are revolutionising drug development and personalised medicine.

Presented by journalist Sangeeta Kandola, the programme will examine the rapidly evolving landscape of clinical trials, exploring the industry’s push towards sustainability, and efforts to incorporate environmentally conscious practices in pharmaceutical manufacturing and clinical trial operations. Regulatory adaptation and health technology assessment (HTA) innovations will feature, showcasing frameworks designed to accelerate drug approvals while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
