Cardiovascular Safety Watch Column
This column focuses on a recent paper from the Cardiac Safety Research Consortium (CSRC) entitled “Cardiac Imaging Approaches to Evaluate Drug-induced Myocardial Dysfunction” that was published in the American Heart Journal. Since its creation in 2006, the CSRC has published White Papers, and several more are in preparation. Assessing the potential cardiac and cardiovascular toxicity of drug compounds is of great importance in new drug development. Cardiac imaging approaches in the assessment of drug-induced myocardial dysfunction already represent an important strategy in the evaluation of potential cardiac toxicity, and they are likely play an increasing role.
