The 100 Year History of Greens 1919-2019

Global Clinical Research Print and Logistics since the early 1970s
1919 – Greens was founded just after the end of the Great War as a sole trader called Benning and Green becoming incorporated as a Limited company on 10th August 1920. Six years later on 13th October 1926 it changed its name to Greens Printing Services Limited.
The founder of the company was Mr. Owen Green setting it up as a small family printers based in his home town of Marlow-on Thames, Buckinghamshire. Green’s originally had the telephone number Marlow 7 and is proud to have printed everything from ration books in the Second World War to simple stationery for local businesses and the community. In the early years the business used letterpress printing techniques.
As the years passed the business moved from father to son and then in the mid 1960s it was sold to three local printers who then advanced into the new technology of lithographical plate making and printing. This allowed a new specialist service to the clinical research industry to be expanded into following the arrival of Janssen Pharmaceuticals from Belgium establishing in Marlow in the early 1970s. Janssen, now part of Johnson and Johnson, explained their needs and growing demand for CRFs, Patient Diaries, Quality of Life books and a complete array of forms from AEs to CMs in a huge range of languages to be shipped all across the world.
On 24th July 2000, after it was decided to merge the factories, the business left Marlow to its current site in High Wycombe to create one bigger, more efficient operation bringing everyone together.
On 3rd January 2007 the company name was changed yet again to the simpler Greens Limited to reflect the new, more varied and vibrant business it had become.
By 2011 the growth of our global clinical print and logistics services led to the appointment of a full time representative based in Philadelphia, USA and partnership with a group of North American print providers. The development of our GlobalSave international courier service and GreensVista online project management tool meant we could manage and run large global studies with ease.
