Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease with Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids
Large-scale epidemiological studies and recent clinical studies have demonstrated that individuals at risk of coronary heart disease benefit from consuming omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Dr Sancilio and Dr Ryan at Sancilio & Company discuss large-scale epidemiological studies that have demonstrated an inverse relationship between the intake of n-3FA and CHD mortality. The consumption of about two servings of fish per week was associated with a 40% decrease in deaths from CHD in a large prospective study of 20,000 physicians.
